Be Still And Know That I Am God

Dear Familia,
Ella saliò con miembros y los D. (Well, this week was strange or different. We went to the clinic on Monday and Tuesday and we did not have anything on these days, and also,  I became sick from the food of Peru. Because of this, I could not go out on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. But my companion went out with members and the missionary couple serving here.)

Tambien me encantò DyC 101:16 que dice Be still and know that I am God. Estoy aprendiendo a aceptar la volutad de Dios màs en mì vida que pasa es un parte de la vida, no tengo que ser dramatic o preocupada y que puedo aprender de todo que està pasando. (I love D&C 56:2 which says if we are not obedient, we cannot be saved. This helped me pass the week even though I was sick, I felt bad that perhaps I was using this as an excuse to relax, but I do not believe so. But I want to go ahead and continue being obedient and be even more obedient.  Also, I love D y C 101:16 that says be still and know that I am God. I am learning to accept the will of God more in my life and all that passes is a part of  life and I do not have to be dramatic or worried, and I can learn from all that is happening.)
***Mom here...* I emailed her back and said...Sis,  In our world where there is constant input and stimulus, it is not easy to be still and know that He is. Sometimes, the food poisoning can be a blessing if it allows you to be still and hear Him. Please know that He knows and loves you very much. Keep your chin up and know that He is Todopoderoso and He loves you!!! .  Todopoderoso means all powerful. It is one of those Spanish words that is beautiful in its depth and meaning.  During a missionary's mission, especially in a foreign country with a foreign language, their native English becomes the slower, more difficult language to write home in. As Hermana Mardi progresses, so does her Spanish..that is why she communicates so much in it. Her father and I, also speak Spanish and so we get the Spanish letters.:)
On a lighter note..I asked her how the sun was..it is spring in Peru and she wrote.... )  ...The sun is great! haha more and more I am getting tanner... haha and my shoe tan line is great!
Con todo mi amor,
Hermana Hyer

LOVE YOU FOREVER

Thank you mommy!!!  l love you guys sooo much!!!
This week has been good. We have a joven who we are working with. But he didn´t come to church which is sad and he studies in Lima during the week, which is also sad and we can only teach him on the weekend. BUT he is really good!! Also cool story!!! haha We were contacting Miguel Grau a street, a long street! and it´s nickname is endure to the end.. because it is SUPER LONG!!!! haha anyways we started at the beginning and we were knocking doors and there was a joven who was knocking a door up the street more.. and nobody... I mean NOONE answered the door. So we knocked the door before where the joven was knocking and then we started talked to him, found out his name is B, that he has friends in Chancay and he was looking for one of them, but lives in Peralvillo, la area de los Élderes. We invited him to church and gave him a tarjeta de oración, with a picture of Christ on it. He told us he would be there, and he left. Then we were knocking the rest of the street. I thought nothing of it because people come all the time, and then don´t. BUT HE CAME!!!! and it was great!!! We were both surprised and sooo grateful to have this blessing! We introduced them to the Élderes and they have a return visit! sooo cool!!! haha Also Presidente Archibald came yesterday to church and taught during Sunday school to the jovenes and adultos about the Sacerdocio and the deber de nosotros tanto mujeres come hombres con el Sacerdocio!!! IT was AWESOME!!! The Spirit was sooo strong!!! I know this church is true!!! Ture to the faith that our fathers have cherished!!!

Believing Christ
By Stephen E. Robinson

To have faith in Jesus Christ, we must learn to believe his promise of eternal life.
One of the most terrifying dilemmas in the universe consists of two facts. The first is expressed in Doctrine and Covenants 1:31: “I the Lord cannot look upon sin with the least degree of allowance.” [D&C 1:31] That means he can’t tolerate it. He can’t blink or look the other way. The other fact is very simply put: We all sin. If the equation consisted of only those two facts, the conclusion would be inescapable: As sinful beings, we can never enter God’s presence.
But that is not all there is. There is the atonement of Jesus Christ—that glorious plan by which this dilemma can be resolved.
And the amazing thing is that the Atonement works in practical ways.

Believing Christ
When my son Michael was six or seven, he did something I thought was wrong. He is my only son, and I want him to be better than his dad was. So when he slipped up, I sent him to his room with the instructions, “Don’t you dare come out until I come and get you!”
And then I forgot. Some hours later, as I was watching television, I heard his door open and tentative footsteps coming down the hall. I slapped my forehead and ran to meet him. There he was with swollen eyes and tears on his cheeks. He looked up at me—not quite sure he should have come out—and said, “Dad, can’t we ever be friends again?” I melted and pulled him to me. He’s my boy, and I love him.
We all do things that disappoint our Father in Heaven, that separate us from his presence, his Spirit. There are times when we get sent to our rooms, spiritually though not physically. When that happens, we sometimes lift up our eyes and say, “O Father, can’t we ever be friends again?” The answer, found in all the scriptures, is a resounding “Yes—through the atonement of Christ.” I particularly like the way it is put in Isaiah 1:18: “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.” [Isa. 1:18]
To have faith in Jesus Christ is not merely to believe that he is who he says he is. It is not merely to believe in Christ; we must also believe Christ. Both as a bishop and as a teacher, I have heard several variations on a theme of doubt. Some have said, “Bishop, I’ve sinned too horribly. I’ll be active in the Church, and I hope for some reward. But I couldn’t ever hope to be exalted after what I’ve done.” Others have said, “I’m weak and imperfect. I don’t have all the talents that Brother Jones (or Sister Smith) does. I’ll never be the bishop (or the Relief Society president). I’m just average. I expect my reward in eternity will be a little lower than theirs.”
All of these are variations on the same theme: “I do not believe Christ can do what he claims. I have no faith in his ability to exalt me.”
I once counseled a man who said, “Bishop, I’m just not celestial material.” Well, I’d heard those words once too often, so I said, “You’re not celestial material? Welcome to the club. Not one of us is! Not one of us qualifies on our own for the presence of God. So why don’t you admit your real problem? Why don’t you admit that you don’t believe Christ can do what he says he can do?”
He got angry. “I have a testimony of Jesus!”
I said, “Yes, you believe in Christ. You simply do not believe Christ. He says that even though you are not celestial, he can make you celestial—but you don’t believe it.”

Why He Is Called the Savior
Sometimes the demand for perfection drives us to despair. More than a decade ago, my wife and I were living in Pennsylvania. Things seemed to be going well. I’d been promoted in my work and was also serving in the bishopric. Janet had given birth to our fourth child, had graduated from college, had passed the CPA exam, and had been called to serve as Relief Society president. We were busy but happy, and I thought we were doing the right things.
Then my wife began to feel an overpowering sense of discouragement. She asked to be released from her callings, and try as I might, I could not get her to tell me what was wrong.
One night, after two weeks of being prodded by a sometimes insensitive but worried husband, she finally said, “All right. You want to know what’s wrong? I can’t do it anymore. I can’t get up at 5:30 in the morning to bake bread and help my kids with their homework and do my own homework. I can’t do my Relief Society stuff and get my genealogy done and sew and go to the PTA meetings and write the missionaries. …”
She added, “I don’t have the talent that Sister Morrell has. I can’t do what Sister Childs does. I try not to yell at the kids, but I do. I’m not perfect, and I’m never going to be perfect. I’m afraid I’m not going to make it to the celestial kingdom.”
I said, “Janet, I know you have a testimony. …”
“Of course I do! That’s what’s so terrible. I know the gospel’s true. I just can’t do it. I’ve tried and I’ve tried, but I can’t do it all, all of the time.”
It was a long night. At last we came to understand what was wrong. We realized, after talking together, that Janet was trying to save herself. She knew that Jesus is an adviser and a teacher. She knew that he is an example, the head of the Church, our Elder Brother, and even God. She knew all that, but she did not understand His role as the Savior.
We all fail at living the full celestial level. That’s why we need a Savior. The Lord says, “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.” (Matt. 5:6.) We frequently misinterpret that verse. We think it means “Blessed are the righteous.” It does not. When are you hungry? When are you thirsty? When you don’t have the object of your desire. It is those who don’t have the righteousness that God has—but who hunger and thirst after it—who are blessed, for if that is the desire of their hearts, the Lord will help them achieve it.

Becoming One with Christ
Perfection comes through the atonement of Jesus Christ. That happens as we become one with him, a perfect being. It is like a merger. If you take a small, bankrupt firm that is about to go under and merge it with a corporate giant, what happens? Their assets and liabilities flow together, and the new entity that is created is solvent.
This is similar to what happens spiritually when we enter into a covenant with the Savior. We have liabilities; he has assets. So he proposes a covenant relationship. Jesus is sometimes called the Bridegroom and the Church the Bride, because of their close association under the covenant. After the covenant is made, I become one with Christ, and as partners we work together toward my exaltation. My liabilities and his assets flow into each other. I do all that I can do, and he does what I cannot yet do. For now, in partnership we are perfect, through His perfection.
What heavier burden is there than the demand we sometimes place on ourselves to be perfect now, in this life? But Jesus proposes: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
“Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
“For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matt. 11:28–30.)

     Trust Me
Nephi was one of the great prophets, yet he recognized his need for the Savior. In 2 Nephi 4:17–18, we read of his anguish: “O wretched man that I am! Yea, my heart sorroweth because of my flesh; my soul grieveth because of mine iniquities.
“I am encompassed about, because of the temptations and the sins which do so easily beset me.” [2 Ne. 4:17–18]
Did Nephi understand his mortal condition?
Oh, yes. But the key to his greatness is what comes next: “Nevertheless, I know in whom I have trusted.” (2 Ne. 4:19.)
I had a friend who used to say frequently, “Well, I figure my life is half over and I’m halfway to the celestial kingdom, so I’m right on schedule.”
One day I asked her, “What happens if you die tomorrow?” It was the first time the thought had occurred to her.
“Let’s see, halfway to the celestial kingdom is … mid-terrestrial! That’s not good enough!”
We need to know that because of the covenant we have made with the Savior, if we should die tomorrow, we still have hope of the celestial kingdom. That hope is one of the promised blessings of our covenant relationship. Yet many of us do not understand that promise or take advantage of it.
When our twin daughters were young, Janet and I decided to teach them to swim. I started with Rebekah. As we went down into the public pool together, I thought, “I’m going to teach her to swim.” But she thought, “I’m going to drown!” The water was only three and one-half feet deep, but Becky was only three feet tall. She was so terrified that she began to scream and kick. She was unteachable.
Finally, I held her close and said, “Becky, I’ve got you. I’m your dad. I love you. I’m not going to let anything bad happen to you. Now relax.” And bless her heart, she relaxed. She trusted me. I put my arms under her and said, “Okay, now kick your legs.” And she began to learn how to swim.
Spiritually, some of us are so terrified by the questions “Am I celestial? Am I going to make it?” that we cannot make any progress. We’re petrified by our fear. But if we’re trying to follow his teachings and paying attention, we can almost feel the Savior’s arms around us and feel those assurances as the Spirit whispers of the Savior’s love for us: I love you. Trust me. And if we do trust him, he can begin to help us live the gospel. It is as if he supports us, whispering through the Spirit: Okay, now attend sacrament meeting. Very good. Now accept a call to serve. And so we begin to make progress.
Alma 34:14–16 makes it clear that Christ’s atonement was infinite and eternal. As such, it enables mercy to overpower justice so we can have the faith to repent. “And thus mercy can satisfy the demands of justice, and encircles [us] in the arms of safety.”
“The arms of safety”—that is my favorite phrase from the Book of Mormon.
Do Latter-day Saints believe in being saved? Of course we do. That’s why Jesus is called the Savior. What good is it to have a Savior if no one is saved? It’s like having a lifeguard that won’t get out of the chair.
The great truth of the gospel is that we have a Savior who can and will save us from ourselves, from what we lack, from our imperfections, from the carnality within us, if we seek his help. In vision, Joseph Smith described those in the celestial kingdom in these terms:
“These are they whose names are written in heaven, where God and Christ are the judge of all.
“These are they who are just men made perfect through Jesus the mediator of the new covenant.” (D&C 76:68–69.)
Just men and women—those who hunger and thirst after righteousness—made perfect through Jesus Christ, our mediator.
    Give Him All
As my wife and I talked that night about feelings of inadequacy, I groped for some way to help. I finally remembered something that had happened a couple of months earlier. In our home it is now called the parable of the bicycle.
I was sitting in a chair reading. My daughter, Sarah, who was seven years old at the time, came in and said, “Dad, can I have a bike? I’m the only kid on the block who doesn’t have one.”
Well, I didn’t have the money then for a bike, so I stalled her. I said, “Sure, Sarah.”
      She said, “How? When?”
I said, “You save all your pennies, and soon you’ll have enough for a bike.” And she went away.
A couple ofs weeks later I was sitting in the same chair when I heard a “clink, clink” in Sarah’s bedroom. I asked, “Sarah, what are you doing?”
She came to me with a little jar, a slit cut in the lid, and a bunch of pennies in the bottom. She said, “You promised me that if I saved all my pennies, pretty soon I’d have enough for a bike. And, Daddy, I’ve saved every single one of them.”
My heart melted. My daughter was doing everything in her power to follow my instructions. I hadn’t actually lied to her. If she saved all of her pennies, she would eventually have enough for a bike, but by then she would want a car. I said, “Let’s go look at bikes.”
We went to every store in town. Finally we found it—the perfect bicycle. She was thrilled.  Then she saw the price tag, and her face fell. She started to cry. “Oh, Dad, I’ll never have enough for a bicycle!”
So I said, “Sarah, how much do you have?”
    She answered, “Sixty-one cents.”
“I’ll tell you what. You give me everything you’ve got and a hug and a kiss, and the bike is yours.” Then I drove home very slowly because she insisted on riding the bike home.
As I drove beside her, I thought of the atonement of Christ. We all desperately want the celestial kingdom. We want to be with our Father in Heaven. But no matter how hard we try, we come up short. At some point all of us must realize, “I can’t do this by myself. I need help.” Then it is that the Savior says, in effect, All right, you’re not perfect. But what can you do? Give me all you have, and I’ll do the rest.
He still requires our best effort. We must keep trying. But the good news is that having done all we can, it is enough. We may not be personally perfect yet, but because of our covenant with the Savior, we can rely on his perfection, and his perfection will get us through.
As Janet and I internalized how the Atonement works, we wept. “I’ve always believed that Jesus suffered and died for me,” Janet said. “But now I realize that he must save me from myself, from my sins and my weaknesses.”
I rejoice in the words of 2 Nephi 2:8: “There is no flesh that can dwell in the presence of God, save it be through the merits, and mercy, and grace of the Holy Messiah.” [2 Ne. 2:8] There is no other way. Many of us are trying to save ourselves, holding the atonement of Jesus Christ at arm’s distance and saying, “When I’ve perfected myself, then I’ll be worthy of the Atonement.” But that’s not how it works. That’s like saying, “I won’t take the medicine until I’m well. I’ll be worthy of it then.”
One of my favorite hymns reads: “Dearly, dearly has he loved! And we must love him too, and trust in his redeeming blood, and try his works to do.” (“There Is a Green Hill Far Away,” Hymns, 1985, no. 194.)
Truly, we must try to do his works with all that is in us. But then, having done all, we can trust in his redeeming blood to do for us what we cannot do for ourselves.
If we will enter into that glorious covenant Jesus offers us and give him all that we have, holding nothing back, trusting in his ability to make up for what we lack, he will exalt us. With him pulling with and for us, we can move forward in confidence toward our celestial home.
**************
That was the end of the talk.
I have come to love this talk!!! and am trying to apply it!! It is difficult but DyC6:36 Elevad hacia mí todo pensamiento; no dudéis, no temáis. (D&C 6:36 Look unto me in every thought; doubt not, fear not.)

WE CANNOT DOUBT!!!! Doubt your doubts before you doubt your faith!!!! WE CANNOT FEAR!!!!! He is there waiting for us!!! With arms wide open!!! Don´t let your faith waiver!!! 3 nefi 9:11-14 talks about the Atonement!!! How is arms of mercy are extended towards us! Mormon 9: 19-20 Alma 11: 11-13 it might be chapter 12.. But it talks about all the different things the atonement covers; afflictions, temptations, sicknesses, pains, and there are 7 last of all it covers sin!! This amazes me; how all the time we are focused on how we are healed from sin by the atonement but it is so much more!!! WE are made perfect, whole, purified, and sanctified by the Atonement!!! Jesucristo es misericordioso!!!!
LES AMO MUCHISIMO!!! LES EXTRAÑO!!!! Como el arroz que estoy comiendo, the drops of water in the ocean and the stars in the sky!!!

Beach and Package

***note from Mom*** we have only sent Mardi 3 packages, one in May to Provo MTC, one in September, 2013...she was running out of supplies and wanted a few goodies, and an emergency one 2 weeks ago, because she had only taken 2 pairs of good walking dress shoes. One, she does not wear, because they hurt her feet too bad, and she cannot walk the necessary 10 miles a day, and the others..she emailed us and told us they were breaking. She cannot just go but her size 11 shoes in Peru, because they have little feet and do not make them.  We added a little bit of candy for Halloween and a dollar store item for Thanksgiving. We also sent some clothes since she mentioned some were getting worn badly with the constant hand washing? We always put something in there for her companion for her to share.( I send her number letters every week with a sheet of stickers from the dollar store to share with her companion and to give away to the children in Peru)..the QUOTE is from President Thomas S Monson, our prophet, and president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.....and now onto Hermana Mardi....

The pictures are of the sunset. and a goat field!!! :D

On Mon, Oct 28, 2013 at 9:15 AM, Our letter to her first.....( a note of explanation..on Oct. 29, 2013.. It marked the 6 year anniversary of her brother, AJ's death. I am friends with her branch president in Lima and I messaged him to give her a blessing if she needed one).
Dear Hermana Mardi,
Hello. how are you? How is your week going? How is the work, and how is Your companion? How are your investigators? And how are you? I have asked your branch president to give you a priesthood blessing tomorrow, if you feel you need and want one. I am thankful that transfers is not until Saturday. You may not be going, but it reassures me that Heavenly Father and our Savior are mindful of you and your tender feelings that may come with or to you tomorrow. We love you and please know that you are in our prayers. I am praying and hoping that you will feel AJ 's arms around you and that your day will be filled with marvelous blessings all day long. Keep a prayer in your heart and know that you are being prayed for by millions of people all around the world. I loved the talk on missionary work that was given at conference. He said that if you want to teach many, you have to talk to many people.
Here is something from Pres. Monson to help tomorrow...
Our Heavenly Father, who gives us so much to delight in, also knows that we learn and grow and become stronger as we face and survive the trials through which we must pass. We know that there are times when we will experience heartbreaking sorrow, when we will grieve, and when we may be tested to our limits. However, such difficulties allow us to change for the better, to rebuild our lives in the way our Heavenly Father teaches us, and to become something different from what we were—better than we were, more understanding than we were, more empathetic than we were, with stronger testimonies than we had before.

This should be our purpose—to persevere and endure, yes, but also to become more spiritually refined as we make our way through sunshine and sorrow. Were it not for challenges to overcome and problems to solve, we would remain much as we are, with little or no progress toward our goal of eternal life. The poet expressed much the same thought in these words:

Good timber does not grow with ease,
The stronger wind, the stronger trees.
The further sky, the greater length.
The more the storm, the more the strength.
By sun and cold, by rain and snow,
In trees and men good timbers grow.8
Only the Master knows the depths of our trials, our pain, and our suffering. He alone offers us eternal peace in times of adversity. He alone touches our tortured souls with His comforting words:

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

“Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

“For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”9

Whether it is the best of times or the worst of times, He is with us. He has promised that this will never change.
My brothers and sisters, may we have a commitment to our Heavenly Father that does not ebb and flow with the years or the crises of our lives. We should not need to experience difficulties for us to remember Him, and we should not be driven to humility before giving Him our faith and trust.

We dearly love you. I sent a big package to you with clothes, shoes, some candy. They only had one pair of Clark shoes in your size. I will get you another pair and I bought the only color they had. The package is at the mission office today. You can share some of the clothes. I hope they fit and are not too hot since you are in spring. Let me know what you want for Christmas besides music and glasses. I love you dearly..from the moon and back again.
Love,
All of us
Mom, Dad and all

darkness when I don´t think I can find more people I think of her and her
happiness and it is easier to go on! Thank you for the quotes as well!!
They help a lot! Will you please continue doing that? Also We have Hermana
and Elder Dickson (***new missionary couple assigned in Hermana Mardi's area.) and they both served in Chile in 2006 to 2008 in Concepción Sur, and they are wonderful!!! Learning spanish again but wonderful!!I was really sick Friday and stayed in with Hermana Jesús, she is a member. and Elder Dickson gave me a blessing which was wonderful as well! I am feeling a lot better this week. We have worked harder and are going to work harder still. I have my faith as a mustard seed necklace when I need it
some days! haha I would love to work on Personal Progress with you girls at the same time! Because I want to go through it again while I am on my mission! I just need to ask the branch president for a book.. or you could send me one.. it would be faster to ask him for one. Here is a picture of the beach! We went last pday and it was super nice and pretty! It has started to warm up a lot! and we are having sunnier days!! I
am sooo excited to have Spring and then summer!!
haha oh funny story.. we have zone conference at the beginning of the month
and the zone leaders asked how the sisters felt and I said fine.. then I
talked and ended up crying a little.. kinda awkward.. I didn´t plan on it
at all.. and now my District leader keeps asking how I feel everytime I
talk to him on the phone.. haha really funny and silly because I can tell
it is a little forced and he doesn´t like talking about feelings.. and he
is an Elder... haha but that is okay! I am just helping him prepare for his
future wife.. Because if you don´t cry; you aren´t a woman! ;D haha
Thank you for your support!!! I wouldn´t be here without it!!!!
LOVE YOU ALL!!!!!

Training

Training August 19, 2013
***I am super late in posting these...Forgive me..)
Dear friends and family,
I am great!!!
Yeah!!! haha Mission is great!!! Oh and I am training someone... even though I didn´t finish my training.. but my Spanish  is improving a whole lot faster than ever!!! and She is From Australia!!! and Her name is Hermana Hooper ;D
haha she only has 6 days en el campo... and I still didn´t finish my
training.. and I know I thought it was cool that Rikki Stallings is going to Australia!!
There are no coincidences!!! I like it!! It helps me a lot more!! I am a
lot more confident and my spanish!! and it is coming so much easier now!!!
She is really great!!! Hermana Moody is in Puenta Piedra with the friend of
my daughter ( ***mission lingo for the person she is training. Hermana Moody and Mardi are training Sisters who were in the CCM together for the last six weeks.) de la mision! I was able to see Hermana Jones as well!! and
There is 3 more people from Logan here! Hermana Hewitt who went to Sky
View. Elder Olsen who went to Mountain Crest and Elder Larsen who went to
Logan High. I did recognize Elder Larsen, but I wasn´t really friends with
him in high school. I knew him by association.

August 26, 2013
I miss you guys soo much! And we have been working really hard these past few weeks and haven´t had anything almost all of our citas have fallen through and I feel like I am a terrible trainer... I don´t know everything and I wish I did so I could help her and help her grow and learn. I wish that I had all the answers and could find all the people we need too.. I know that there are some areas we can improve and do better in but it is still really really hard. but I don´t wish that I was home! Even though it is hard it is soo worth it to help others! I just wish I knew what to do sometimes...
I have recieved emails with attachments from Aunt Jenny and have not been able to look at them yet! I cannot believe that summer is over and the kids are back in school again! The Hyers are definitely preaching and sharing the gospel with the World!! :) It is amazing how the people are prepared to hear the word of God and how some just don´t want it. It is so different and hard sometimes. We know we have the truth and sometimes they just don´t want to hear it.
I am glad that you guys are harvesting! Yummy food to come!
I Love you both soo much!! Thank you for passing this wonderful gospel to your children and grandchildren! I am so glad we are a family for the eternities! How WONDERFUL and MERCIFUL is our God who allows to have this joy and sadness, this time to grow and become more like Him, to return to His presence!

Cambios...Transfers

It's a great day to be a missionary....
Hola! Todos...cambios..tansfers..Hermana Moody is going, and I am staying and getting a new companion on Tuesday. My heart is sad for her to leave yet I feel blessed to have served with her. The best trainer ever!!!!!
DO NOT SEND MORE STAMPS... they don´t work here.. but I would love stickers!!!! (**I sent her US stamps that work with the pouch system.)anyway real letter! Estoy bien! ***(In English, I am fine! The work is very hard and difficult at times but it is worth the pain! There are no new ones yet. ( 70 missionaries are flying to Peru this week on visitors visas to their respective missions. They will arrive on Tuesday, the 12th.)  We are going to have and change companions ...sadly...Yes, we had 2 baptisms this week. We had M and W. M is a young adult and W is the sister of R. M, the other sister will be baptized this week.)
FELICIDADES!!!! A Michael who is going to serve in Jacksonville, Fla.
We made pancakes as a distrito this wednesday and here is a photo of the pancakes! My owie is better!! It now is a scab.. and healing nicely! Jaja.. I did sing the kitties that song.. but softly so no one could hear.. OH one of the Elderes from my district LOVES Big Bang Theory!! and it is sooo funny!!! jaja It is Elder Palomo.. who the first week I was here I kept calling him Elder Paloma..and I started that habit again this week. thankfully I haven´t said it in front of him this week. So funny experience.. this week there were neighbor kids who were playing with a dead mouse throwing it at each other and trying to freak each other out, and the little kid threaten to throw it at me and I thought in spanish Voy a pegarte.. amarte.. jaja It was really cool how fast it changed from me wanting to hit him to love him... I felt very humbled at that point. Then a neighbor kid whose mother is a less
active and we have been teaching, said No, no a ellas! and WE WERE SAVED FROM THE DEAD MOUSE!!!  No more interesting foods.. although I have tried duck and it is good!!
THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO!!! AND ALL YOUR SUPPORT!!! AND LES AMO MUCHO!!! COMO EL ARROZ ACA!!!! ( Like the rice here!!)
CON MUCHO AMOR!!!!!!

Soft Kitty..Warm Kitty..and a little Owie

HOLA!!
I am great!!! Work is great.. but hard and frustrating but FANTASTIC!!!! I am really happy doing the Lord´s work!!!! It is a pleasure that He allows us to help His children!!! Hermana Moody is great! I got A2,3,and 4 the other day. (***I am not sure what that is, but I will ask her.) The walking is A LOT!!! jaja but great! My feet and shoes are great! Although Thursday primero de agosto was a great day.. okay sorta.. I have a funny story.. two..jaja so after we picked up a member to go with us to an appointment I hit my head on a bar... because I am soo tall here!!! jaja and then later that day. We were booking it! like walking pretty fast to one of our appointments because it is on the other side of town.. and I fell off the curb.. well I stepped wrong and fell.. jaja I scraped my ankle but that was it. My companion was laughing sooo hard she cried! jaja She told me she saw me and then turned around and heard me start to fall and then she turned and saw me finish my fall. jaja It was pretty funny! and it hurt for a couple days but now I am good!! jaja I am attaching a picture so you don´t think it was something more serious..because it was a baby owie.  ANYWAY!!!
Investigators are good! We have 3 fechas ( dates) for next Saturday and they are a guy.and two are the sisters of the boy who just got baptized. We haven´t had a wedding yet but there is someone who is helping us find all the necessary papers and the things we need. Transfers are on Tuesdays, the day after p day so people can pack. Sister´s conference was great!! So much fun!! It was fantastic to see almost all the sister´s from Provo again!!! I am attaching a pictures after the egg fight.. jaja and hopefully if I have time of Hermana Moody´s birthday and the baptism as well!
I CANNOT BELIEVE that they (***her siblings) start school again soon...
sooooooooooooo....0ooooooooo......ooooooo WEIRD!!!!!!!!! jaja It would be great if you want to send me stuff to celebrate AJ´s birthday! (*** we still celebrate his birthday as a family, usually his favorite foods, and balloons at the grave site.) ( ***Now for some sisterly advice...)
LIZZY!!!! A friendship is worth more than to fight... that is a problem in the church because we have the truth satan works twice as hard! I know it is hard to apologize.. but It is what Christ would do.. and it is what is needed if you want to be friends! and YOU ARE WONDERFUL!!! BEAUTIFUL!!!!  AND I MISS YOU!!!  Tell this to our kitties for me!!! Soft kitty.. warm kitty. little ball of fur.. happy kitty.. sleepy kitty.. purr purr purr!!!and LOVE THEM FOR ME!!! Also could you take a picture of them and email it to me!!
Satan is going to work twice as hard on people when they are going to church and are trying to go to the temple!! BUT IT IS WORTH IT ALL!!!!!! The blessings that come from the temple far outweigh the trials and troubles we face to get there and stay worthy to go!!!!!
Yes they did get rid of backpacks.. they want us to use side bags now...so if you could send me a good quality on that will last!!! I WILL LOVE YOU EVEN MORE!!! jaja and really appreciate it!!! ;D  Chancay is great!! We have good investigators and are working with the branch to make things better! We do have a DVD player in our apartment.
I LOVE YOU ALL!!!! AND miss you all soo much!! as much as the grains of sand on the beach here.. of the stars in the sky at night.. the drops of water in the ocean and the MILLIONS of GRAINS of RICE that I have eaten and will eat!!!!!  (***Mardi did not care too much for rice before her mission.:) )
GIVE MY LOVE TO ALL!!!! and tell my friends that I am writing handwritten letters to those who have written me because I have their address.. jaja but it might take a month to get there... jaja!!! Tell them to email if they want an immediate response.. well for next Monday... if I have time..:D

MTC sisters together again, Gui and First Baptism

                                                       MTC Sisters together again
Sister's Conference with Mission President
Hermana Moody's Birthday
Gui

                                                         First Baptism

                                                                  Dinner with a Family

Dear FAMILY!!!
This week has been better! We had a baptism! of a niño and He was soo happy!!! We also tried cuy ( big Guinea Pigs...tastes like chicken..:).  and had a wonderful lunch with members yesterday! I am happy!!! My spanish is getting better still a little hard sometimes.. but it is a learning process! Sunday we went to pick up two investigadoras for church and they live on the other side of Chancay from us and a little bit away from the church as well. One said that she didn´t have time with family visiting and the other was not there. Which was disappointing.. but that is okay. When we got to the church the boy who had gotten baptized the day before wasn´t there and we were ten minutes late. I teared up and cried a little But one of the members had told us that She saw them coming. And They did!! !He got  confirmed and it was beautiful!!! His name is Rodrigo and he is 9. His mom is Juana and Monica is the daughter in the picture. He has two other sisters Andrea and Wendy and his dad Rubén. Elder Gubler is the one who baptized him! This is the family we have been trying to get married and there have been many miracles to help us!
WE ARE LOVED!!!! By the one who created us all!!! By our Heavenly Father and our Savior!! I have felt their love for my investigadores and for you!!! I MISS YOU ALL!!! I LOVE YOU ALL!!! YOU ARE ALL AMAZING!!!!

Smashing Eggs

Hola Todas!!!!
Estamos bien! La comida es BIEN RICO!!!! Me gusta mucho!!  (We are fine!  The food is very good!!!! I like it a lot.) The other day we had mariscos.. clams i believe and it was really good.. although tasted like fish.. and I don´t really like fish.. but that is okay! haha For every meal we have rice!!! and I now know why I did not like rice when I was little because I knew I would get an OVERLOAD later in life!! jaja!! Although I love it now!! and there are many ways to cook it! arroz con leche es mi favorito!  ( Rice with sweeten condensed milk...better than rice pudding.) La Obra es bien!  (The work is good!) We have been a little slower this week because I have been sick.. and I felt terrible because my compañera already does most of the talking and while sick I lost my voice for a day and a half.. she had to do all the talking and even talk for me too.. I felt terrible and alone because I couldn´t speak and couldn´t say anything.. But it helped me realize that I need to be humble and use the Lord in all things and He knows how I feel and how everyone feels and He loves us even though we sin! He is perfect and loves us Perfectly!!!! Even though we aren´t. I can´t wait for the day to see Him and be like Him! He is wonderful and does everything for our good!!! Let the Atonement mold, cleanse, purify, sanctify, and change you! IT IS FOR YOUR GOOD!!! You are becoming the best
you can be through the one who Loves us!!
My compañera is perfect for me!! She compliments me perfectly.. Her strengths are my weaknesses. She is teaching me so much about Love and diligence and patience.. All the attributes of Christ! Her parents should be so proud of her!
So this week.. on Wednesday was el cumplaños de mi compañnera ( the birthday of my companion- a Peruvian tradition- smashing eggs) and we SMASHED EGGS!!!!!! jaja although President Torres says that I still need an egg on my head for my welcome.. we will see.. jaja
Los Elderes tuvieron un bautismo de una jovencita ( the elders had a baptism of a young girl), this saturday, and We have one this next Saturday! We are still working with a familia to get married. but the Lord has opened doors for us and we have found people willing to help!
The temple brings so many blessings! There are many families here that aren´t sealed and I feel so lucky that I have that sealing for eternity. I haven´t been able to go to the temple for about a month.. since I have been in the field, and I miss it dearly! The last time I went in Peru I did not want to leave. There is a peace there that feels like home even though I am far away. Temple Work and Family History are even more important to me now that I have gone through the temple and am away from my family. I can feel your love across the oceans, mountains, and valleys! I feel the support of your prayers when I really need it! I LOVE YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!! Thank you for teaching me the gospel and choosing to be fiel en el Evangelio! ( Strong in the Gospel!) Keep telling me about home!! and the experiences you are having! It supports me soo much! and if you have pictures!!! I would love to see them!
I only get mail every month or so.. depending when people go to the offices for meetings and stuff..
FELCICDADES A Eddy y David!!!! MORE DRIVERS!!!!!!!!! STAY OFF THE ROADS!!!  ;D ( They passed their driving permits.)
Everything is great and I am SUPER happy!!! This is the work of the Lord.. and it is fun!!! difficult at times but sooo fun!!! The Elders in my zone are AMAZING!!!! and they have helped me so much to be better!
Squeal for joy..... That we are having a baptism.. THat my compañera es AMAZING!!! haha that we have inside jokes how I am Po from Kung Fu Panda.. jaja MY DISTRICT IS FANTASTIC!!!!!!!! jaja I hope I stressed that enough. I can definitely see that The Lord has prepared us to help each other and to learn from each other!
Last Sunday I did speak in Church on obra misional con amor y caridad! (on missionary work with love and charity). I spoke with the zone leaders.. and felt my spanish was below par after I heard them and understood about half of what they said... but one is from Mexico and is a native speaker and the other has been on his mission for a year. I just want to speak and understand perfectly already.. but I am learning patience and diligence!! That is so great that they are all using their priesthood. I feel so blessed to have them as my family. That is a problem here.. There is enough people to have a stake but most are inactive- also they only have enough active priesthood to have a branch.. which is really sad for me because I grew up around the priesthood and now I realize how blessed I was and am to have worthy priesthood holders in my home! ( Mardi was sick and I asked her if she said in any. ) I sort of stayed in.. One of the nights this week we went in about 2 hours early and I slept and also I was sleeping in a little in the morning as well. I think I am over the worst of it. Hna Moody did not get sick.. she might soon though.. haha I am praying for no though. The baptism is this Saturday  for son of the family we are working with. and the wedding will happen depending on the paper work. We are having a celebration this Saturday for Peru. I will take pictures and send them to you! I also have pictures of the egg fight... but I may have to wait and send them next week.. Cambios is the second week in August I believe.
You can edit and paste my letters together.. so they make sense..

Po from Kung Fu Panda

July 15, 2013 Monday

Hola! Familia y amigos!!!
This week has been a lot harder we had made a lot of contacts with people on the street and when we went to their houses they were not there which is sooo sad because they have no idea what they are missing or what happiness they could have and it´s a happiness that lasts forever!!!!!
Yesterday was really hard because Saturday we had a FANTASTIC lesson with this girl and she said that she wanted to feel better and repent and go to church the next day and so Sunday morning we went to her house which is on the other side of Chancay from where we live and it is also far sorta from the church and I felt like Po in Kung Fu Panda when he gets to the top of the stairs and he can see and then the doors close before he gets there.. The investidora decided to stay home and sleep well that is what her dad told us that she is still sleeping so we walked to church saddened of heart because we were also running late to church and we thought we were going miss the Sacrament as well.. but The Elderes had told them to wait for us or they were waiting for other miembros tambien. haha that was sad.. but we are still going to see her. I also met my new mission president this past week.. last wednesday! He is great!! and His wife is wonderful!!! and they have 10 kids all together but only 2 of them came with R a 12 boy and S a 10 year old girl. They are so sweet! Also our president is a teacher for seminaries and institute which is what I am considering going into when I get back but I am still not sure.. there is a lot of history here.. I might do history as well.. haha
I keep waking up every morning not believing that I am here serving my mission for the Lord. He has been protecting me and he has been guiding me. I can feel it. And Spanish is getting easier little by little.. Although I still wish I was a native speaker.. That is my goal!!! To be a native speaker!!!
Everything is great just a lot of walking... and walking... y caminando... y mucho más caminando!!!! jaja.  WE have not tried no bake cookies..(I sent her the recipe that she asked for last week)  porque they don´t have peanut butter here.. or they do and it is very expensive.. so send me more easy no bake recipes we can try. I have not gotten any dear elder letters.. It will probably be easier to email..

I am attaching some pictures and this one is my army of Helaman and my first day en el campo.

July 8, 2013 Arroz...Rice With Every Meal :)

Hola Familia y Amigos,
I am teaching a bunch of people... We contacted a whole bunch of people althought half of them weren't home when we went to visit.. We are teaching less actives and inactives a lot.. That is a problem here in Chancay a lot of people took a offense and intended offense so they stopped going to church.. I now know why I went throught that thing ... I can understand how they feel.. WE have a family that we are teaching and the mom is J and dad is R oldest is A then W then M and R.  We invited W and J to baptism and W is scared or has doubts but we are working with her. J needs to get married first and we have a date set for the 20 of july for a wedding and 27 for baptism. Last night we had a noche de hogar with The familiy and a member M and her family. It was way fun!! M and R are reading the scriptures together each night and R has made friends at church and desires to be baptized!! R is 9, M  14, W 17, and A is 18.  A and R haven´t really been to any of our lessons.. A is afraid because she had a bad experience with a church.. But I can see the hunger for knowledge in their eyes!
Favorite moment was last night.. each day is better than the next!
The Lord is always kind and patient with us.. haha I have noticed that a lot more especially since I am less patient with myself. I am so glad Heavenly Father is perfect.. I would hate to have someone who wasn´t in charge of everything.... The Lord is amazing!! and cares about everyone!!!
haha culture shock.. well I... the men cat call like none other... haha tambien arroz con cada comida!!!  ( Rice with every meal...she is not too fond of rice.)   It is really cold here.. well not freezing but we are right next to the ocean and it is humid cold..
I GOT YOUR LETTER this week!!!  SOOOO AWESOME!!!! We only get mail once in a while when the leaders or a companionship goes into Lima to the offices.
I am glad you guys are having fun!!! Please swim for me and take baths for me!! haha We have a shower and a water heater but usually the water goes cold.. which makes me get out faster.. haha
A mission is hard... but SOO worth it!!!  I have met soo many people and learned so much already I wish girls could serve for two years!!! A lot of times it is sad because nobody wants to hear or appointments fall through. but... Always afterward the Lord blesses us because we do our best. Like the other day we had like 5 appointments fall through and taught a less active member and then my companion taught piano at night and it was a good day. The next day got better and the next better! Also another experience saturday was great!!! We had a lesson at 10 am and He had taken lessons from other missionaries and knew a lot and was really interested! then that night we had a couple people not at their houses.. so we went to a noche de hogar and taught and played games then headed back home and we passed by a person we had met house and there were people drinking outside and I said lets go home and my companion said no me importa vamanos. entonces we taught and the beginning was hard for me to concentrate there was music coming from upstairs and it was in english and drunk laughter from outside but the music got turned off and it was a great lesson! we were teaching a guy and two ladies the ladies and my companion cried. One of the ladies L had a daughter die and I knew sort of how she felt. My spanish came a lot easier and It was AMAZING!!!!! Vale la pena!!!! If you feel it is right to go on a mission GO!!! IT is WORTH IT!!! and so much fun!!!! and I could not imagine myself doing anything else better with my time!!!!
Answers to questions....
I have not met the presidente ..pero I expect him to do interviews with people soon. My Líderes de zona (zone leaders who are the missionaries in charge of the missionaries in that area) have and they said he whipped everyone with his words of fire.. that he is direct and like Jeffery R Holland. The work is great! We are working with a family now.. the information is in my letter to C... don´t have time to write it all out again.. jaja ( j sounds like a h in Spanish so this is the Spanish haha:)) love you guys still!! Mi compañera y yo estamos bien!!! (My companion and I are well.)  and the investigators are great!!! We have made a lot of contacts and some haven´t been there... but that is okay. I have not recieved the dear elder letter ... but I will let you know when I do! That is AWESOME!!! I heard M ( her cousin) got his call to Florida? WHich mission?
CONGRATS ED!!!! It will help you so much prepare to be a missionary!! The Lord is preparing His missionaries to be the most effective!! He is hastening His work!!!
I get an hour to write friends and family.. and 15 minutes to write the presidente. The weather is great.. humid. cold.. but great!!! I am not cold.. well only when there is a chill jaja At night I have three blankets and sometimes I get hot.. I will let you know when I get the package... Let me know the names of the Elders.. The Elder that was in the MTC with me was Elder W and he was the one assigned to Logan.. The rest are in Ogden area I believe...
I received several letters yesterday the ones with the Flags, and two from The Y.. ONe from  S.  Send me pictures of you guys!!! I want to see the fun things you guys are doing!!! Could you also send me pictures of all the cousins and their families!!!
I have not heard about Sister O it is possible she is assigned to another area.. Maybe at cambios I will see her..
Chancay 2 is great!! A LOT of walking... haha Yesterday we have two baby blesssings in our ward and a confirmation. I have seen 2 baptisms so far a youth name J and an older guy name J. They are of the other elders in my district. We are working with a family to get them baptized but I will let you know how that goes. Spanish is coming easier and I am remembering and understanding more but I still get overwhelmed at times and I zone out and my mind wanders but I try to listen carefully and understand the syllables and imitate them in my own speaking. In my District we have two native speakers which is great!!! It helps to hear them talk. The Companionships are  Elder H and Elder P. Elder H is from Huntsville, Utah and Elder P is from Mexico. They are the líderes de zona y son bien simpaticos!! THEY ARE GREAT!!! jaja. Elder N and Elder G: Elder N is from Spanish Fork and is half tongan and says he knows  our neighbors.... haha He is my líder de distrito. ( District leader) Elder G is from Las Vegas and is pretty funny.. ALL THE ELDERS ARE HILARIOIUS!!!!! Elder S and Elder F: Elder F is from Ecaudor and Elder S is from.. I don´t remember where but from utah.. I believe..
It is sooo great to watch the native speakers tell stories or jokes and how animated they are!! Also I can see the personalities when I actually understand what they are saying!! haha they are soooo great!!!! I am so blessed to have such WONDERFUL ELDERES!!!!! and AMAZING Capacitadora!!! (Trainer..her companion) and YOU GUYS AS MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY!!!!! LOVE YOU ALL!!!!!
How is everything going? How was the family reunions? Send me PICTURES!!!!! How is home? Go swimmming for me!!! and take baths!!! jaja
