Surprise picture of Hermana Hyer

I was looking at a post of a blog called Love Our Missionaries, and guess who I spotted in the picture. Yep, our very own Hermana Hyer...dark blue sweater and black outfit. She looks happy. This is her zone in the MTC in Provo, Utah during the week of May 15, 2013. I could not resist posting it here.

Lima Peru CCM

For those of you that are wondering what the CCM is..Here is a copied post from the church's web site about it...

Peru MTC Exterior

History

The Peru Missionary Training Center (MTC) was established on July 1, 1986. It was situated in what used to be the mission home for the Peru Lima South Mission, and the first president was Alvin Romney. The capacity was 46 Spanish-speaking missionaries and continued at this location until the new center was constructed and then dedicated by Elder Russell M. Nelson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles on August 27, 1998. The new MTC is located in the La Molina District, has a bed capacity of 144 missionaries, and is within walking distance of the Lima Peru Temple. Currently there is an average of about 120 missionaries organized in two branches consisting of both native Spanish-speaking missionaries as well as native English-speaking missionaries who are learning Spanish. The MTC is in its first stage of construction and contains three of the projected five buildings: an administration building; a building with the kitchen and eating area on the bottom floor with an auditorium above; and a building that houses the classrooms on the bottom floor with residence and laundry facilities on the second and third floors. The campus is always meticulously maintained and has a sand volleyball court, an artificial turf soccer field, an outside basketball court, ping-pong tables, and other sporting and exercise equipment.

Weather

If you will be at the MTC during the winter months (May to November), expect cool, cloudy weather and average temperatures between 60 and 64°F (16-18°C). During the summer months (December to April) the air is warm and humid with average temperatures between 70 and 80°F (21-27°C). Annual precipitation is usually less than 2 inches.

This is a happy gospel!!!

Hola! From Peru. I am great!!! It is soooo much fun here!!! I would highly encourage preparing for a mission now so that you are worthy and ready!!! I feel like I should have prepared a lot more than I did.. Go to mission prep!!!! Read Preach My Gospel now!!!! Go through it and start preparing!!! Pray for missionary experiences and don´t be afraid to share the gospel!!! This is a happy gospel!!!! BE HAPPY!!!!!
I have a quote for you ´´Don´t hold anything back from the Lord.´´ Elder Nelson. Also ´´Obedience brings blessings. Exact obedience brings miracles.´´ Elder Nelson Be the miracle in your life!!! Be the miracle in someone else´s life!!!
What experiences have you been having? What blessings has the Lord give you?
One last quote, ´´You have been preparing for a mission since before you were born, and you will not feel complete unless you do so worthily.´´ Elder Marcus B. Nash
Work to exhaustion every day and then give a little more!!!! The Lord will bless you for your efforts!! Use the Savior´s Atonement daily!!!! Moroni 7:12-13; D&C 6:36
I am great!!! The food is delicious a little spicy sometimes!! I love you too!!! I miss you too!!! My district is great!!! Peru is very pretty!!! It has mountains just like home.. but there aren´t really any trees on them... Mostly green trees, no pine!! Food is great!!!The CCM is great!!! Homesickness comes and goes.. The Spirit is so strong here that I don´t notice as much... I would like the families addresses if possible.. I have been having so much fun!! !Tuesdays are my pday.. I went to the temple. I rode on a crowded bus it was an adventure.. haha I will send pictures as soon as I figure how on these computers... My first Sunday was great!!! We had a devotional and I listened in Spanish and tried to translate for myself... I would get behind.. but I got the gist of it. I kept pleading with the Holy Ghost to help me and I would feel him whisper words to me and different things I needed to hear. On Sunday we saw a DVD of an Apostle it was Elder Andersen.. and he talked about Thomas S Monson and the things he lives by.. I will write it in a letter because.. I don´t have my notebook with me. I love my district! I´m am still warming up to them.. but they are great!!! The Lord has blessed me so much with the language I am learning faster than I did in high school.. and more of the gospel as well!!!! :D I cannot wait until I am fluent and can expresss feelings perfectly!!! I had a lesson the other day and the investigator didn´t really want to let us in but we were persistant and he did, He didn't want to pray either but we taught him how and he did. The spirit was sooo strong!!! It was amazing to have the Holy Ghost driving the car with going where we were needed!!! I am sooo happy!!! I do miss you guys and love you!!! But I´m sooo glad I´m here!!! I am learning sooo much and growing closer to Christ each day!!! I love it here so much!!!
Con Mucho Amor,

****This is Jane adding a side note. Mardi wrote several emails and I combined them and I am not sure how they blended. :) She wrote to several members of the family and with their permission, I pieced it together. She will be in the CCM for 4 weeks total. She is scheduled to be there until June 19. Her address is the one under the CCM to the left. If you have any issues with writing her, please get ahold of me. She loves your letters, and hearing from you. Until next week..
With much love...

Loving Peru

HOLA!!! de Peru,
I arrived safely and I was able to find other missionaries to help me and be companions with. I got into Lima about 1030 and then had to get through and go through customs we ended up arriving at the CCM at about 2:30 am early this morning. If my email doesn´t make sense... It is a new and different keyboard... (Spanish keyboard). My flight was good! It was fun! I don´t know why I worried so much.. The airport was good and it wasn´t too difficult to navigate. I have been able to understand most of the things the natives are saying... so far. I have a room full of sisters and am having a good time. Lima is a really pretty city. I love it here already. I can´t wait for my other Hermanas ( in the MTC in Provo, Utah, her companion and the other 2 sisters in her group are all going to the same mission..Peru, Lima West Mission. They have not yet received their Visas), to come... but I know they are being prepared.. as I was to come here. I love you all!!!
Nos Vemos!

Hermana Hyer's testimony

A few days ago, I was going thru some of Mardi's things to put away for her while she serves her mission. I found this written in a notebook given to her by her Young Women's leaders. Since she left for Lima, Peru this morning, I thought it was appropriate that I share this. This is her testimony of the gospel in her own words. I am not sure of the date, but this is the reason why she is where she is, serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for the next 18 months of her life.
"My testimony:
I know this church is true. I know that Jesus is the Christ and He died for us that we may live. I know that if we live worthy, we will be able to be with our families forever. I know that families are forever and that we are all brothers and sisters. I know the pioneers worked hard to come to this valley and I am so grateful for their choice to join the church. I know the scriptures are true, and that they are here to help us along with every single person we come into contact with. I know that everything we go through is for our benefit to help us become more like Heavenly Father and our Savior to be able to live with Them again. Our trials help us to become better people. I am so thankful for the examples of amazing people I know and for the wonderful ancestors and amazing family I have. I know the Book of Mormon is true and that they compliment the New Testament and Old Testament in Their testimony of my Savior and your Savior, Jesus Christ. I bear you this testimony in His sacred Name, Jesus Christ, Amen."
Hermana Marcilene M Hyer

As I mentioned earlier, she flew out to Peru this morning at 8 am MST and landed in Lima at 11:00 pm EST. She will teach the Peruvian people about Jesus Christ, and the gospel. She was excited, nervous about the flight, and a little sad. She loved the MTC, Missionary Training Center, in Provo, Utah where she has been since May 8, 2013. She told me that her tentative date to finish her mission is Nov 18, 2014. This is her journey of service and love.

T-2 days to Peru

Mardi writes, " I am great! I am having so much fun! Sometimes its hard, but it is always worth it! I have 3 other girls going to Peru Lima West! Sister Jones is my companion and she is amazing. Sister Olson and Sister Lind are great, too! I, also have 6 Elders in my district who are all going to Mendosa, Argentina on their missions. I have met a lot of new people! I miss you all. I got to see Coulsen, (Elder Rich-her cousin who is going to Illinois, Chicago Spanish who was also in the MTC), on Sunday before he left for Chicago! It was pretty cool!
My mission is great. I love it so much! I did get to teach an investigator! It was so cool! and different. But the Spirit was really Strong! The mission schedule is different, but good! I love my mission! I leave this Wednesday to go to Peru. I have met a couple of my friends from high school here.
Remember: trust in the Lord and His timing! Moroni 7:12-13 and Proverbs 5:3-5.
Remember it takes time to turn into a butterfly!
Love,
Hermana Hyer

This is a test post to start Mardi's Mission Journal. She is currently in the MTC in Provo, Utah, but will leave this Wednesday, May 22. Her mission is Peru, Lima West in South America. She will be teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ in the native Spanish to the people of Lima, Peru.
Just a note, we do not know whether she will be going to the MTC(CCM) in Peru or whether she will go directly into the field. The CCM address is different than the Mission address. We will let you know.
